Georgetown is a World Heritage site for good reason. This small city on the island of Penang, Malaysia is rich with architecture and culture. Street art is everywhere in Georgetown, and searching for street art was our favorite way to take in the city.
We’ve had the good fortune to dive in some amazing spots around the world from Sodwana Bay in South Africa to a night dive with manta rays in Hawaii. More recently we were treated to some spectacular sights at Balicasag Island in Bohol, Philippines. We’re happy to now include our dives at Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, and Koh Ha in Koh Lanta, Thailand among the amazing dive sites that we’ve experienced around the world.
Railay, Thailand is one of the first places I read about when we were considering a trip to Southeast Asia. As I browsed Pinterest boards full of inspiring images of beaches and long tail boats I quickly noticed that many of the pictures were from Railay. We knew we had to see it.
To be perfectly honest we were disappointed with Railay. We had heard that Railay’s beaches, especially Phra Nang, were among the world’s best, if not the best. When we arrived we found Railay West and Phra Nang beaches beautiful but small and crowded, with cloudy water and tons of long tail boats. The peninsula itself […]
The Railay peninsula near Krabi, Thailand is famous for great rock climbing, including many deep water solo opportunities. While it had been years since either Kat or I had been rock climbing, and we had never been deep water solo rock climbing, it’s a sport we really enjoyed in the past and we were itching to use this opportunity to get back on the rocks.

All in all, an amazing day, a great early mother’s day gift for my mom, and I can’t wait to try some of my Thai cooking skills back home!
Is there such a thing as ethical elephant riding in Thailand? That was the question we grappled with as we planned activities during our visit. On the one had, we had been looking forward to riding elephants from the moment we started thinking about visiting Asia. On the other hand, we had found blog posts […]
We found a bunch of fun family activities in Chiang Mai. While known for temples and culture (not always high on the list for a family vacation), Chiang Mai actually has a lot to offer for family travelers. This is our list of fun kids activities in Chiang Mai.
Update February 2018: Sadly it looks like the Wat Suan Dok website is no longer functional. I’m not sure if they’re still offering the retreat described below. If anyone in, or traveling to, Chiang Mai could post an update in the comments I’d really appreciate it! Taking advantage of cultural education opportunities around the world […]
Perhaps the Philippines capital isn’t at the top of your family travel bucket list, but there are still lots of great kids activities in Manila. We spent a few days in Manila looking for things to do with the kids while we waited for our Thailand visas to be processed. In that time we found […]
